SEPI is responsible for construction engineering inspection services for this project to relocate the existing Southgate Drive and construct a new diamond interchange over Route 460. The project includes approximately 1.0-mile of asphalt, drainage, utilities, sound walls, and the new construction of two overhead bridges, two new box culverts, and the extension of one existing box culvert. The existing Dairy Barn complex is to be demoed to make way for the new Southgate Drive which will include two roundabouts. The existing traffic signals at Duck Pond Drive and Southgate Drive will be removed and a new traffic signal constructed on the bridges of the Southgate interchange. Parts of the Huckleberry Trail/Hokie Bikeway will be relocated for the new construction. Over 350,000 CY of material will be removed and/or placed in the construction of this project. SEPI Technicians are performing density testing on embankment and structure fills, concrete testing for bridge substructures, inspection of pile driving, predrilling operations, erosion monitoring, and sedimentation controls in accordance with plans and specifications.
